Date October 22nd – Buttle UK, the charity dedicated to supporting children and young people in crisis and poverty across the UK, is delighted to announce the appointment of Aniela Shuckburgh as its new Chair of Trustees with effect from December 2025.

Aniela brings over 25 years of experience in the not-for-profit sector in both the UK and the US, with a career spanning leadership roles in youth and education-focused organisations. Her particular expertise lies in high-level strategic fundraising and development for major institutions including Harvard Business School, City Year UK, and the University of Cambridge, where she was part of the senior management team delivering the University’s landmark £1 billion 800th Anniversary Campaign.

In addition to her new role at Buttle UK, Aniela serves as Chair of Magic Breakfast, sits on the Board of British Youth Music Theatre, and is a founding member of the Impact London Collective leadership team. She also volunteers regularly with Little Village Camden.

I am absolutely thrilled to be joining the Board of Buttle UK. It is shocking that so many children in this country continue to live in poverty, blighting their childhoods and having long-term impact on their life opportunities.

I am very excited to be part of Buttle UK, an organisation that not only directly helps children and young people in poverty and crisis but is striving to make a systemic difference.

I very much look forward to working with the Board and staff team at Buttle to help ensure that children growing up in poverty have a brighter childhood and future.
Aniela Shuckburgh

Founded in 1953, Buttle UK works to support children and young people across the UK who face crisis situations, financial hardship and multiple social challenges. The charity delivers fast, tailored, holistic grants designed to improve emotional, educational, and social outcomes, for children all over the UK.

We are delighted to welcome Aniela as Chair of Trustees. Her extensive experience in the charitable and education sectors, combined with her deep commitment to improving opportunities for young people, makes her an exceptional addition to our Board.

Her leadership will be invaluable in our mission to ensure that no child’s life is determined by crisis and poverty. I also wanted to personally thank Peter Orlov for his exceptional dedication and impactful contributions throughout his nine-year tenure as a Trustee (including two-years as Chair).

Peter’s commitment and guidance have been instrumental in advancing our mission to support and advocate for children and young people that need it most. Thank you, Peter.
Joseph Howes, Chief Executive Officer of Buttle UK

While it is bittersweet to be coming to the end of my maximum 9 year term as trustee, it has been an absolute privilege to serve on the board and to chair Buttle UKs’ Board of Trustees for the past few years. Looking ahead, I am very excited to see Aniela joining Buttle UK at such a critical time for children in poverty across the UK.

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the scale of child poverty in the UK, but every story we hear also carries a spark of hope that things can change – and I think Aniela’s experience and personal qualities make her the ideal person to lead the Board during this period.

I look forward to seeing Buttle UK build on their incredible work turning hope into action for thousands of children and young people across the country and to stay involved in other ways.
Peter Orlov, departing Chair of Trustees
